Advice from the Grievance Committee to faculty:
- Even if you are unsure that an action may be in violation of the collective bargaining agreement, you should meet with grievance committee.
- If you are sure that you are being instructed to do something in direct violation of the collective bargaining agreement, you are still obligated to perform that action. The only actions you are not required to perform, if instructed, are those that may cause bodily injury.
- Once you have completed the assigned task, it is in your best interest to file a grievance with the help of the Grievance Committee.
- Question may be directed to any of the committee members.
- Know Your Weingarten Rights
If you are called into a meeting or an interview, you may invoke your Weingarten Rights by saying, “If this meeting may in any way lead to my being disciplined or terminated, or affect my personal working conditions, I respectfully request that my union representative, officer or steward by present at this meeting. Without representation, I choose not to participate in this discussion.”
What to do if you’re called in: contact grievance to prepare for the meeting and to determine if representation might be needed, take notes, answer questions, debrief with your union representative. You must request representation; it will not be offered. If your request is not honored, inform grievance as soon as possible.
The following forms are available for filing grievances:
- Grievance Notetaking Sheet (rich text file)
- Grievance Form (Word document)
- Letter of Agreement: Expense Reimbursement (PDF)
